In the speech,Ms.Sarah Alexander pointed out that the next generation of green building will go beyond design to operation, and that the future of the green building movement is all about performance. High-performing, sustainable, smart cities and communities are paramount to securing the health and wellbeing of millions around the world—and ensuring a more sustainable future for all. Therefore, LEED will play a prominent role in developing smart cities at a global scale. LEED works by enhancing a company’s triple bottom line, helping manage business operations and creating a more sustainable and resource efficient built environment.

To commend JIAMING’s contribution on creating green and sustainable building environment, Ms. Sarah Alexander officially presented the LEED-CS Platinum plague to JIAMING Maple Park Project on behalf of USGBC. As the first project granted the LEED 2009 CS Platinum certification in Beijing, JIAMING Maple Park is an intelligent building featured by low carbon, energy saving, ecological design and environment protection. Sustainable features of Maple Park include the use of local-drought resistant plants in the landscape design, drip irrigation technologies, a rainwater storage system and recycling treatment technologies for waste water to reduce water consumption by 78%. Also, the building is able to reduce its total energy consumption by 22% by employing a variable air volume system, chilled water storage and LED lighting. As Ms. Alexander stated in her speech, “Buildings and communities are like people: both will perform at their peak when attention is paid to their wellbeing every day. It’s that attention to thousands of little details that makes JIAMING Maple Park a shining example of sustainable design and construction.”

After the ceremony, the forum also invited five professionals from different industries and organizations to form a panel discussion on building green and sustainable eco-system. All the guests are actively involved in this topic and raised many questions and insights. We truly believe that the successful completion of this forum will create more possibilities on the future collaborations on building green and sustainable environment between China and the U.S.

What is LEED Certification?

LEED certification was developed and promoted by USGBC in 1998, aims to effectively reduce negative influences on the environment and residents in the building design, and standardizes a complete and correct concept of green buildings. LEED certification includes an evaluation system that is seen as the most mature and influential one among standards on environment protection assessment of buildings, green building assessment and sustainability of buildings in the world. The evaluation system comprehensively inspects buildings from categories like sustainable site locations, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, resources and materials, and indoor air quality to determine their influences on the environment. Moreover, the system gives a grade based on indicators of those categories and then divides buildings that passed the assessment into four levels (platinum, gold, silver and certified) based on the points to reflect how green those buildings are.
